How many times
have you heard, "Life is too short," It's true. I'm a
firm believer in Carpe Diem, seize the day. We are with unlimited
potential, but with limited time. Therefore, go off in the direction
of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined. "Only those
who risk going too far can possible find out how far they can go."
T.S. Eliot. That quote is the essence of so many things in life;
including a life path, a direction and an overall attitude. If we
limit the choices we make in life only to what seems possible, we
disconnect from what we really want and all that's left is compromise.
Go for it. Whatever "it" is. Full force, full out.
I once heard
an analogy between taking risks and an electrocardiogram. You know
the computer screen at the hospitals that measure one's vitals.
When the vital signs go flat, we die. When there are fluctuations
and activity it represents vitality and life. The point is to challenge
the status quo. The point is to go for your dreams and play full
out. There's a great line in one of my favorite songs by Seal. It
goes something like this, "in a world full of people, only
some want to fly, isn't that crazy" That is crazy. It's time
we all choose to fly.
We make decisions everyday that impact the quality of our lives.
Some are smaller than others. Occasionally, we are faced with a
crucible moment, a true vicissitude. It's a moment in time where
we can dramatically change the course of our existence. And find
a place where we resonate on a higher level. It's a place where
life makes more sense, a happier place. I suppose this can last
for various durations. Perhaps changing us for months or years depending
on what takes place and the level to which we connect to the energy.
There are situations that have the potential to change us forever;
they shift us from within. It's an internal paradigm shift.
I have experienced
a crucible and would like to share it with you. Perhaps it will
inspire you to pay attention to the defining moments. Perhaps it
will make a difference.
I became an
Ironman and fulfilled one of my personal dreams. The result was
life altering. It put me on a new path and gave me the confidence
to pursue other aspirations and to live in the moment. Let's embrace
life together. It's meant to be cherished and celebrated. Call me
the consummate optimist. There is a choice, and I choose to run
with the crazy ones. The mystics, the ones who see things differently,
the ones who believe they can change the world, the round pegs in
square holes. They cannot be ignored because they invent, explore,
create, inspire, lead, and push the human race forward.
