Writing was
not always a passion. I sorta faked my way through high school and
college English courses; thrilled to receive a "B". My
writing quest was born out of two main factors - creativity and
the need for expression. The creative component drove me to begin
the written journey. It started with an idea . . .One morning I
woke up, pulled out a pen and paper, and jotted down my thoughts;
which would later develop into a 40,000 word novella. I titled it
Egalitarians - A Journey Into Hope. The theme is equality
and I am planning to share it with the world in some capacity (ebook,
published book, screen play/film).
My desire for
expression also showed up in the form of poetry. One of the draws
for me had to do with its inherent flexibility. There are no hard
and fast rules. It enabled me to sometimes just let my stream of
consciousness flow. I plan on sharing some of my poems on the Home
page along with other favorites from various other poets.
Besides a couple
of poems, my first published work is a book on triathlon for beginner/intermediate
level triathletes. My co-author, Colin Barr, and I had an amazing
experience from the concept to inception, through the 50 page proposal,
to the content outline, to each chapter, to obtaining photos, through
edits, and marketing. What a tremendous opportunity; a true saga.
Look for it in bookstores near you: The Complete Idiot's Guide
to Triathlon Training (publisher Alpha Books). See below excerpt
from the books introduction.
"You're
cordially invited to come with us on a journey into the sport of
triathlon. This is a journey that might change your life for the
better, as it has ours, and as it has for thousands of people across
the world. If you're curious about triathlon or looking for an adventure,
keep reading. It these pages, you will learn. You will be inspired.
You will succeed. Be prepared to challenge yourself and show your
desire to achieve.
At this point,
you might not even be sure what a triathlon is. The standard triathlon
consists of swimming, biking, and running, in that order. Generally,
the swim is the shortest segment of the race and the bike the longest.
Between each of the sports is a period called transition, where
athletes enter a designated area to leave equipment and clothing
they no longer need and pick up equipment and clothing they nerd
going forward. That's it in a nutshell.
If you want
to start doing triathlons for fun, fitness, weight loss, or any
other reason, you'll benefit from this book. For those of you who
have already started down the TRI path, we help you get to the next
level. Our goal is to be your partners on a successful and rewarding
triathlon journey.
But
be warned: This sport may become an addition. Participation
in triathlon may cause feelings of improved self-confidence, an
increased sense of accomplishment, and overall good health. Prolonged
use may cause endorphin highs to course through your veins and make
you feel generally better about life."
